On my way back to HK I had an unexpected and inopportune layover for over 22 hours in LA. Although I could have gotten upset, I had just recently posted a quote from my MD pastor that reads, “Although you can’t control the circumstance, you can control your stance.” Little did I know I would be putting it into practice so soon not to mention living out what my shirt displayed.
A few years ago, my god-brother wrote a book, “Dealing with Delays.” This encounter allowed me to live some of the nuggets of wisdom in his book. In pausing to reflect upon the silver lining, my mind highlighted these three things:
1. I historically test the 23kg weight limit to checked baggage and wouldn’t you know that I had to pull the essential small luggage pack out of one of my suitcases and carry it on the plane with me? At first I felt a certain way about looking like a bag lady carrying two bags through the airport as one was to look like my personal item and the other my carry on. However, when checking into an airport hotel at 1:30 am in the morning, I was so glad to have these essential items with me!
2. I once was showered with upgrade grace from economy to business class on a flight and boy oh boy was it a game changer! Ever since then when on a long flight I wish, hope and pray that it will happen again. So I attentively waited for my name to be called on this 15 hour 40 minute flight I was scheduled to endure on Friday evening, however it was not. But on the next night, after boarding with my original seat assignment, God had me shouting, “Won’t He do it!”
3. Arriving 3 hours in Hong Kong prior to beginning the first day of the semester is not ideal but God’s grace is sufficient. I viewed those hours of the energy God was to bestow on me as: one for the Father, one for the Son, and one for the Holy Ghost!
The sermonic selection that touched my heart right before the new year’s message entitled, “God Has His Hands on You,” was Vashan Mitchell’s, “Sooner or Later.” The lyrics that pierced my soul then and replayed throughout this delay were these:
And it won’t always be like this,
He will perfect that concern in me
And sooner or later, it’ll turn in my favor
(Sooner or later, turn in my favor)
It’s turning around for me
During this process and just like every day that I have lived and will continue to live, God has his hands on me. That statement is a proclamation, affirmation, and benediction no matter what I face in life and that is a blessed assurance.
While passing time I read a friend’s post to which the author is unknown and oh how befitting it was for this experience and it provides pearls of wisdom I will wear this year.
Welcome to flight #2019
We are prepared to take off into the New Year. Please make sure your Attidue and Blessings are secured and locked in an upright position. All self-destructive devices should be turned off at this time. All negativity, hurt, and discouragement should be put away. Should we lose Altitude under pressure during the flight, reach up and pull down a Prayer. Prayers will automatically be activated by Faith. Once your Faith is activated you can assist other passengers. There will be NO BAGGAGE allowed on this flight. The Captain (GOD) has cleared us for takeoff. Destination greatness and new beginnings! Strap up with the WORD of God as your faith takes flight.
