The Virtual Experience:
Right before my journey to the west I heard the news of the passing of the Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown. Being that I grew up listening to this genre that gets into the beat of your soul, I would have been remiss if I didn’t pay tribute. The music in the video is courtesy of the DC legend.
Eat:
You have heard me say before, “Calories on vacation don’t count.” Well, when you have a 2 month vacation it may be wise to adopt a different slogan… Countless calories aside I truly enjoyed the dining experiences from down-home cooked meals to limitless buffets while in route to Bermuda – and there should be a limit!
My taste-buds have surprised me as they have been delighted with the familiar flavors of buttered nan, tandoori chicken, and samosas.
Pray:
One of my dearest friends summarized it best when she told me, “Katrina life is full of twists and turns.”
It’s not so much in what happens but rather how you respond to what happens. Day by day I grow in my appreciation in the power of prayer and am grateful for all of you who have once and continue to lift my name. I know without doubt that prayer changes things or in some cases the person in their ability to keep standing and most importantly going.
During the 14 + hours back (yep you read correctly) to ‘Incredible India’ I gained a sense of peace and confirmation thanks to Hollywood, “Everything will be all right in the end… if it’s not all right then it’s not the end” – from the movie “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”
Love:
I love my job and yes believe it or not, I do have a job. Why? Because it affords me to the opportunity to be rewarded professionally and most importantly it provides me the riches of spending time with family and friends.
Teach:
For this portion of the blog I normally provide information about the place(s) I have visited. I would like to ask permission to do something a bit different this time and leave you with excerpts from what life has and is teaching me from an unknown author on “Things I’ve Learned” in no particular order.
• That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
• That just one person saying to me, “You’ve made my day!” makes my day.
• That being kind is more important than being right.
• That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
• That it’s those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
• That under everyone’s hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
• That the Lord didn’t do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?
• That love, not time, heals all wounds.
• That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
• That life is tough but I’m tougher.
• That I can’t choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.
I also learned that climbing boulders are easier than climbing a rock wall, especially when the rock wall is in the middle of the ocean… Needless to say I have something else to add to the bucket list.:-)
