Happy 70th Birthday through the lens of “Eat, Pray, Love, and Teach”
I would ask that you join me in wishing my mother, Phyllis Jean Brown a Happy 70th Birthday!
Video Tribute:
Eat: As I often do not have meals in India that include the required vegetable staple, I appreciate and sometimes miss my mother’s cooking. In particular I sure could have some cabbage and collard greens. Hopefully she is taking notes for Christmas. 🙂 Why not a vegetable at every meal? Well, when one receives the suggestion to wash their vegetables in a Clorox water solution, one gets weary.
Pray: As I have lived through the terror attack in Delhi as well as the earthquake earlier this week, there is no doubt that I am covered in prayer. I am grateful that both of my parents taught me the gift and power of prayer.
It is my prayer that God continue to bless my mother in all areas of her life. Furthermore I pray that He grant her the desires of her heart.
Love: Although appreciated much later in life, I appreciate the love and sometimes tough love I received as a child. Growing up in a structured home with the expectation of excellence has created countless opportunities for me in my adult life. I am also grateful for the sacrifices made in love to create the very best life my parents could provide.
Already many of my colleagues have said they love the communication I provide with my facial expressions. Where did that trait come from? My mother! 🙂
Teach: Where did I obtain my skills as a teacher? Yep, you guessed correctly, my mother. I remember summers of Houghton –Muffin, which by the way was my mother’s way of imposing summer school on us. I also remember summers of bulletin board decorating. I was not appreciative then, but oh how appreciative I am now that I am in the profession!
